Internship Overview
This mentorship is step three of our three-part career pathway for Workers’ Compensation Case Management, to provide the nurse with continued skill building experiences, to make a seamless transition.
Welcome to the final step in becoming a Workers’ Compensation Nurse Case Manager. This internship moves you beyond theory and coaching into direct practical application. As a Nurse Intern, you’ll work on live cases, perform ride-alongs, coordinate treatment plans, and experience the full responsibilities of ensuring the safe and timely return to work of injured workers. You’ll apply all the skills you’ve developed during your course instruction and mentorship in real-world case management scenarios.
Each session is 1 hour.

Coaching Session Topics
Week 1: Getting to know you
Week 2: Patient Introduction & the moving parts of a file
Week 3: Ride Along
Week 4: Billing, Letters and Jurisdictional Appropriate Training
Week 5: Reports & State Specific Forms
Week 6: Follow-Up and the “other” clients (PT, Vendors, etc.)
Week 7: Questions & Ride Along Part 2
Week 8: Putting it all together
About the Instructor:
Chelsea Strawn RN, MBA-HM, BSN, CCM is the founder of LightHouse Comp Consulting, where she leverages her personal and professional experience to support workers’ compensation case managers, insurers, and injured workers. With over a decade of experience in case management, Chelsea has transitioned from an injured worker herself to a compassionate leader, advocating for others in similar situations.
As a former case manager and leader of case managers, Chelsea developed a deep understanding of the complexities of the workers’ compensation system, offering tailored solutions for those navigating the challenges of injury recovery. She is passionate about empowering both workers and case managers with the tools, strategies, and guidance they need to succeed. Her work is rooted in the same support that helped her as a single mom and nurse recover from a catastrophic injury.
