About the Instructor
Sherry Thomas, BS, RN was always drawn to teaching and training. As a child she taught her younger sister to read and was a mentor to her schoolmates throughout her elementary and high school years. She always wanted to be a nurse but was also interested in public health and decided to pursue her bachelor’s degree in public health education after graduating from high school. While public health proved to be a rewarding and challenging health care environment, Sherry’s dream to be a nurse remained ever-present. Six years after receiving her degree in public health, Sherry enrolled in a nursing program and pursued her dream career. She worked at the bedside for a few years and became interested in caring for the elderly which led her to a long career in post-acute care as a Director of Nursing. She also held various positions throughout her career in post-acute care nursing – risk manager, quality improvement consultant, legal nurse consultant and hospice/palliative care nurse and worked in acute care. After more than 20 years as a Director of Nursing she decided to transition to full-time consulting and further developed her skills and passion for continuous quality improvement and risk management. This transition has afforded Sherry the opportunity to continue to teach and mentor nurses and to give back to those seeking to make a similar transition. Sherry is an avid sports fan and when she’s not teaching and mentoring you can find her attending a sporting event – hockey, football, basketball, and baseball cheering her team on to victory. She enjoys cooking, diamond art painting, reading, volunteer work at an animal shelter and spending time with her family and friends. Connect with her on LinkedIn.
