Step 3: Hands-On Experience & Practical Application
This internship is the final stage of our three-part career pathway for Workers’ Compensation Nurse Case Management. It’s designed to provide real-world, skill-building experiences so you can transition seamlessly from training into practice.
In this stage, you’ll move beyond theory and coaching into direct application of your skills. As a Nurse Intern, you will:
- Work on live Workers’ Compensation cases
- Participate in ride-alongs with experienced professionals
- Coordinate treatment plans and provider communication
- Apply case management principles to support safe and timely return-to-work outcomes
By the end of the internship, you’ll have hands-on experience with the day-to-day responsibilities of a Workers’ Compensation Nurse Case Manager—from injury assessment to case closure.

About the Instructor:
Chelsea Strawn RN, MBA-HM, BSN, CCM is the founder of LightHouse Comp Consulting, where she leverages her personal and professional experience to support workers’ compensation case managers, insurers, and injured workers. With over a decade of experience in case management, Chelsea has transitioned from an injured worker herself to a compassionate leader, advocating for others in similar situations.
As a former case manager and leader of case managers, Chelsea developed a deep understanding of the complexities of the workers’ compensation system, offering tailored solutions for those navigating the challenges of injury recovery. She is passionate about empowering both workers and case managers with the tools, strategies, and guidance they need to succeed. Her work is rooted in the same support that helped her as a single mom and nurse recover from a catastrophic injury.
